Overview
An eClinical technology provider needed engaging training for their investigator sites to improve data collection across multiple studies. Our team developed high-quality user guides to orient site staff on how to use our partner’s data collection software, with instructions personalized to each specific study.
When learning best practices are applied to digital health software training programs, they can improve data quality and reduce helpdesk inquiries. By developing learner-centered content tailored to specific study or digital health platform needs, eClinical tech providers can better engage users at clinical sites, resulting in more efficient studies.
The Organization
Our eClinical technology partner’s digital health platform enables clinical trial sponsors to scale high-quality data generation from their studies. Their platform supports sites and patients in collecting clinical trial data.
The Challenge
With increased digital health software adoption by study sites, eClinical tech providers like our partner routinely receive helpdesk inquiries and training requests to ensure that end users are equipped to use the software properly. Regardless of a platform’s user-friendly design, some users may require additional support to learn how to navigate the interface and collect data properly. Without the right digital health training and user onboarding, these sites may collect poor-quality data from study participants.
Our partner needed impactful and engaging training materials to equip its customer support staff with the tools to train site personnel involved in study operations, including consent, enrollment, and data collection. These resources also served as valuable guides for patients who may struggle to comply with study requirements due to unfamiliarity with the digital health technologies involved.
The Solution
Our eClinical tech partner engaged Studion to create and deliver study-specific user guides aligned with their standard operating procedures (SOPs). For this deliverable, the team at Studion applied proven expertise from both the Life Sciences and Learning practices to create user guides. These best practices included a focus on Learner-Centered content, one of the components in our High Engagement at Scale® framework for digital learning. This translated into:
- Including high-quality text and graphic elements that engage platform users
- Customizing each user guide to meet unique, study-specific requirements across multiple studies
- Improving the overall clarity, detail, and instruction of user guide content for investigator sites and patients
The Impact
Studion’s learner-centered user guides enabled our eClinical tech partner to engage clinical trial site personnel and study participants, resulting in better investigator site and patient training experiences.
Overall, the guides improved user experience by providing a deeper understanding of the study software and an easy-to-reference guide for troubleshooting needs. As a result, data collection was much easier, which satisfied both patients and investigator sites. Site personnel could also troubleshoot software issues without needing to call the helpdesk, which, in turn, freed up the helpdesk to support more complex site and patient questions.
